COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL EYE
EXAM
a comprehensive eye exam (with pupil dilation) for the purpose of evaluating all external and internal ocular structures and functions to detect any and all eye health issues, as well as possible ocular effects of systemic health conditions or medications.
PEDIATRIC
EXAM
a comprehensive eye exam for children aged 18 and under, that will include the use of cycloplegia (extended pupil dilation). cycloplegia is performed on new pediatric patients and will require a longer than normal exam time, in order to provide the most accurate determination for the need for prescription glasses. returning patients may or may not require cycloplegia.
CONTACT LENS FITTING
an exam that includes corneal topography and diagnostic lens fitting for the purpose of determining a contact lens prescription. a current spectacle lens prescription is a prerequisite. if you do not have a recent and current spectacle lens prescription, please schedule under the exam type “contact lens exam”.
DIABETIC
EXAM
a comprehensive medical examination (with pupil dilation) for the purpose of evaluating the eye for the sight-threatening effects of diabetes. a letter summarizing the findings will be sent to your primary care physician and any other physicians involved in your diabetic care.

LASER VISION CORRECTION

if you are considering any refractive surgical procedure (lasik, prk, clear lens extraction), this type of visit is your first step. it is a complimentary consultation to determine if you are a suitable candidate. dr. massengale specializes in prk laser surgery but will discuss all surgical options to determine the best and most appropriate procedure for you.
HIGH-RISK MEDICATION EVALUATION
a comprehensive medical eye exam (with pupil dilation) and specific appropriate diagnostic testing for the purpose of monitoring the effects of oral medications with potentially visually devastating consequences. examples are plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) and methotrexate.
GLAUCOMA
EVALUATION
a comprehensive medical eye exam (with pupil dilation) and specific appropriate diagnostic testing for the purpose of monitoring the eye for suspected or previously diagnosed glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
CONTACT LENS EXAM
a routine eye exam that is to include the fitting of contact lenses, either for previous lens wearers or patients new to wearing contact lenses.

LIPIFLOW
lipiflow is an in-office procedure designed to treat the root cause of evaporative dry eye by applying 108.5-degree heat to the inside of the eyelids for the purpose of dissolving and excreting blockage in the meibomian glands, the cause of 87% of all dry eye cases. in most instances, dry eye symptoms are relieved, and often the health and viability of the meibomian glands are significantly improved.
AMNIOTIC MEMBRANE ALLOGRAFT
a doctor-directed procedure for the regenerative healing of the optical surface with an amniotic membrane. this highly effective procedure is performed when traditional treatments fail in the pursuit of resolving acute, subacute, and chronic ocular surface disease (corneal epithelial defects, neurotrophic keratitis, corneal ulcer or erosion, acute chemical or thermal burns, herpetic keratitis, exposure keratitis, or resistant dry eye or keratoconjunctivitis sicca).
LIPIVIEW II
this innovative diagnostic imaging procedure determines the cause of chronic dry eye. measuring the lipid layer at a micron level, and providing an intra-tissue image of the meibomian glands helps determine whether your dry eye condition is caused by a lack of production of quality tears or evaporative dry eye due to blocked meibomian glands in the eyelids.
